History

Lake Pichola was created in the year 1362 AD. It was named after the nearby Picholi village. The lake is 4 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide. The beauty of the lake is that it has numerous islands, ghats, palaces, temples and palatial mansions dotted all around it.

Attractions

A sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola is definitely a not to be missed experienced when in Udaipur. When the rays of setting sun fall on the gleaming water of this lake, a magic happens. The shimmering views of the Taj Lake Palace in the heart of the lake and some other island palaces and buildings dotted here surely add to the boat ride experience.

There are four islands on the lake namely Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas.

Arsi Vilas is a small but beautiful palace and an island belonging to the royalty of Udaipur. It is now a small bird sanctuary where you can spot ducks, egrets and kingfishers. There is also a shrine here named Mohan Mandir where the Gangaur festival is celebrated.

Also visit the Jag Mandir Palace, a stunning lake garden palace with heart pleasing architecture. Here you can relish a fancy evening with dinner at a lakeside restaurant.

Travelers can also spend some moments of peace at the Gangaur Ghat, a historical main ghat. The ghat remains busy with locals and travelers and flaunts impressive views of the lake.
